This is a house in a Chinese village (found by some students from the Chinese Academy of Art). An old man owns this house with several rooms. But unlike a normal house, these rooms are not joined. Bedroom, kitchen, dining room, bathroom, toilet, stores, are separated by village lanes. One walks from room to room always feeling one is a part of the village. You can imagine different homes with non-contiguous rooms making up this village.
Chronology of house:
1958: a fire destroys the home of the owner’s family, plot 1.
1970: after staying for more than 10 years in a relative’s house, he saves enough money to reconstruct it.
1973: his brothers move out one after another after they each got married.
1975: after two years of waiting, he is allocated plot 2 from the government.
1990s: both parents die and leave him with plot 3 as inheritance.
2004: he builds a room on the land formerly occupied by his pig sty, plot 4.
Now: his son works in Wuyi county; he and a nephew live here now.
