A month ago, we were invited to give a presentation of our recent work at Yehuda Safran’s seminar at Columbia. The grounds were covered in white; the snow slightly softening the scene of the revered campus and making movement through it somewhat more physical. Inside, Yehuda of course made it all a bit more erudite by drawing us into a discussion about the differences between Japanese and Chinese sensibilities, and that particular Western notion of form (manifesting “idea”), invariably leading to comments from participants about “formlessness”, a this versus that. Yet another view would be more a blending and mixing of this and that, a natural coming togetherness.
