On an island one and a half hours away from central Shanghai, we are planning a place for people to escape from the busy-ness and noise of the city. In a fruit tree forest site which is 600m long and 30m deep, instead of planning holiday villas that are usually self-sufficient, we are making 25 clusters of smaller fragments of these villas that have been broken down into smaller functions. These are scattered in the forest in order for people to experience these rural surroundings in a maximum way. According to the number of people and relationships of various people in the group, they can rent bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, as many as they need and in whichever spot that they want. In this way, they customised their own environment depending on how they choose. In moving from room to room, they cross paths with groups of other holiday-makers. With each visit they can choose different combinations so that they can have fresh experiences each time.
