Doubtless The High Line in New York City is a great urban park by any standards. On a winter’s day when the sun shines generously on thickened snow, one can stroll up close or under buildings, partake vistas down perpendicular streets, watch adults cavort on benches, envy colorful children skate on a makeshift rink below, feel the hum of the Hudson River, and feast on the loot off Chelsea Market. Its charm has more to do with the inherent conditions of this abandoned stretch of raised rail track, what with sights and snow half obscuring purposefully wild vegetation and designers’ touches.
