耳にして懐疑的にならざるを得ない単語は、エコとアート。
もちろんコンテンツにも寄ります。ただ両者ともに、会話や文章の中でそれを何度も繰り返し出てくるような場合は要注意です。エコの同種の言葉としてグリーンやサステナブル。アートの場合はデザインか。
“eco” and “art” are words that we immediately feel suspicious when we hear them. it depends on the context in which they are spoken, of course. however, if we start hearing them repeatedly in any conversation, the disbelief becomes stronger. words such as “sustainability” and “green” and “design” may also by included in this category.
例えば最近中国でも一般的になってきた環境シンポジウム等に、大手デベロッパーが名前を連ねています。全く節操のない開発を中国で繰り広げているのに、コミッティーとして名前を連ねることで”グリーン考えてますよ”というアピールでしょう。エコとかグリーンは今の所、企業イメージアップのためか、消費者心理に入り込むセールスポイントというのが現実です。
these days we start to see big developers in symposiums about ecology. they like to appear that they are “green”. on the other hand, they relentless develop more and more land for profit, because that’s their business. “eco” and “green” are simply words to improve their corporate image and to provide a selling point to make customers want to consume.

kuu does not emphasise “eco” so loudly but takes a different approach. if pressed for a position, for example in housing, we think we do not need a 300 sqm home, but we can live compactly yet comfortably with less area. also, sharing certain functions of a home, such as a kitchen or laundry room reduces repetition, and instead enhances community-building. through our teaching in china and our studies, we transmit these ideas softly to the next generation.
as architects, doing what we can only do, we focus these ideas in our thinking of architecture design, which will affect directly the way people live. this is different from saying we use “green” materials, processes or devices in our architecture.
アートについてはそれが目的や動機になっているのを聞くと嫌な思いがします。出来てみたらアートだったという状況に出会うことは少ないです。
