we wanted to make many holes big and small through the walls of an old apartment on hengshan lu to connect spaces in different ways or to store things. but when the plaster was removed, we found that the existing load-bearing clay brick walls were too brittle to withstand such architectural abuse. instead, we will add another layer of lightweight concrete bricks to the walls. different patterns are designed out of two types of brick sizes to give different characters to different rooms.

while working simultaneously with projects extra big and super small (and making models out of compressed foam), we soon learn how this can influence that.

衡山路のアパートメントでは既存の壁に大小様々な穴を開け、隣り合う二つの空間を繋げながらその穴を収納にも使うという計画であった。しかし、工事が始まり、プラスターが除かれると現れたのは劣化の進んだクレイタイルであり、穴を開けるような仕打ちには耐えられそうもないものだった。よって反対に、軽量コンクリートブロックのレイヤーを新たに加え、荷重を分散させるようにした。2種類のサイズを使用して3つの隣り合う部屋にそれぞれ異なる表情を作る予定。

同時期に超大型と超小型のプロジェクトに携わり、しかも同じ材料（スタイロフォーム）を使って模型を作るのは、とても面白い経験である。
